I have a bad obsession.
My parents recently got Netflix, so of course I took the account information to have in Stillwater ! For the first week, I could not stop watching episode after episode of random TV shows I had forgotten about. It was starting to get a little ridiculous, so I decided to turn Netflix into my workout routine.
I am a big fan of incline walking and my goal is always 40 minutes. What else is that length?? Friday Night Lights. Now, I have even more motivation to visit the gym because I will get to find out what new football drama unfolds next!
Will be a sad day when I finish the series!
If you don’t have Netflix and want to watch some TV, just hop over to Hulu and start browsing. Make it your goal to only watch a certain show while exercising, if you get as into certain shows as I do you will be back at the gym in no time!
Missed me? I know it has been quite some time, but I am back and ready to share my journey of staying fit throughout college. Hope everyone survived the holidays and is sticking to those New Year’s resolutions.
In my last post I was suffering from an ankle injury and HALLELUJAH it has healed! I am back to my normal routine and keeping busy with dancing at basketball games.
This leads me to the point of this post, dance around like a crazy person and burn those calories!
Football season requires a lot of dancing, but basketball season is a whole other story. Each timeout we have to dance for 2 minutes without stopping, this may not seem like a long time, but you come back to the sideline out of breath each time.
So for a fun fitness challenge try this –
When watching a TV program, have your iPod/computer ready with pump up music ready to play when the commercials begin. Once the commercial starts, pop in your headphones and do not stop moving until your program starts again.
You might want to try this one when you are by yourself though, may get some weird looks from roommates!
i am still suffering from the ankle injury. and it is holiday season. damn it.
everyone knows that here in good ol’ america from the end of november to beginning of january, food is allllll around us. as much as i would love to be the super disciplined healthy one…let us get real. that is not going to happen.

also, try looking for healthier alternatives to your favorite holiday dishes!
and keep in mind how packed the colvin center is after the holidays. you don’t want to have to experience the mayhem more than normal because you are trying to workout more due to the holidays!
food- enjoy the wonderful food of the holidays, but remember to stop once feeling full!
fitness – make sure to keep up your routine, even over the break! and because college kids go home, see if your local gym will let you pay just for the time you will be back!
fun- try ice skating! it is a fun way to enjoy the holidays while burning quite a few of calories!

while enjoying a lovely run through the osu campus, i came across my new favorite beyonce song, “love on top” and began more or less dance/run instead of just normal run.
well…blinded by the power of b’s ability to change octaves like nobody’s business, i tripped and fell in front of about ten people. call me grace..
after my boyfriend came and carried me to his car, then to my bed I began the age old ritual of R.I.C.E. rest. ice. compression. elevation.
this morning, i paid our trainer a visit to find out i have a severe sprain. good news, i don’t have to dance at a game until bedlam. bad news, how am i going to keep up working out when walking is painful?
her tips were- first let it rest for a few days without any activity ( this will be hard for me) . second- try swimming laps ( there won’t be as much pressure as other exercises). third- try a low impact exercise like elliptical once you regain enough strength to begin again.
food- when you can’t work out like normal you have to make up for it by eating extra extra healthy!
fitness- hit up the colvin center pool! check here for hours because they are kind of tricky.
fun- the new harry potter movie came out. rent or buy it and R.I.C.E it.
the title is not referring to the justin timberlake movie that was almost the exact same as the “no strings attached” ashton kutcher movie. i’m talking about a friend to help get your body looking good. if it leads to other kinds of benefits, well good for you!
these past two weeks one of my best friends and i have been working out together almost every day. it has made my workouts more entertaining and more accountable. no way in hell am i going to be the lazy friend.
keys to finding a good workout buddy include finding someone who has a positive attitude. a previous workout buddy constantly complained about things making me question if i was enjoying myself or not.
also, find someone with a similar schedule. my friend and i sit down on sundays to plan our workout “dates” for the week.
another key to having a great workout buddy is to have someone to make you laugh. you’ll burn extra calories!
food- keep a food journal and exchange it weekly with your buddy, knowing they will see it will make you more aware of what you eat if you know someone will see!
fitness- try these exercises out with your new workout bud!
fun- sit back and relax after all that working out and go check out a movie!
